Corrosion Resistance: Galvalume Steel Sheet (Technical Data No. 2)

Overview

Galvalume steel sheet is a highly durable galvanized steel sheet developed by Bethlehem Steel Corporation in the United States, consisting of a coating layer composed of 55% aluminum, 43.4% zinc, and 1.6% silicon.

Features

Feature 1: Excellent Durability.

This steel sheet offers long-term corrosion resistance, and it is confirmed to be 3 to 6 times more durable than galvanized steel (Z27).
Furthermore, the corrosion resistance of aluminum is effectively balanced by the sacrificial protection and self-healing properties of zinc. This allows the alloy layer to naturally form over cut edges and scratches, preventing rust.

 ■Humidity Test (Temperature: 50°C, Humidity: 95%)

Test plate Time until red rust begins to appear
Hot-dip galvanized steel sheet (Z25) 6,000 hours
Galvalume steel sheet (AZ150) 35,000 hours

2. Excellent heat resistance.

The galvalume steel sheet offers approximately twice the heat reflectivity of standard colored steel sheets because aluminum—the primary component—accounts for an exceptionally high 80% by volume.
As a result, heat transfer through the wall material is minimized, reducing operating costs such as electricity consumption within the facility.

 ■Solar Reflectance of Each Materials
